PASTOR’S GUTS!!
This interesting prayer was given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have ridiculed the absolute truth of your Word and called it Pluralism. We have worshipped other gods and called it Multiculturalism. We have endorsed perversion and called it Alternative Lifestyle. We have exploited the poor and called it the Lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it Welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it Choice. We have shot abortionists and called it Justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building Self-esteem. We have abused power and called it Politics. We have coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it Ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it Freedom of Expression. We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it Enlightenment. Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen! ”
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In six short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is Pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea.
Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio programme, “The Rest of the Story,” and received a larger response to this programme than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord’s help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called “one nation under God”. If possible, please pass this prayer on. “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for everything.”
ISN’T IT STRANGE?
1 Isn’t it strange how a 20-dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to churches, but such a small amount when you go shopping?
2 Isn’t it strange how two hours seem so long when you’re at church, and how short they seem when you’re watching a good movie?
3 Isn’t it strange that you can’t find a word to say when you’re praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?
4 Isn’t it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel or ZANE GREY books?
5 Isn’t it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible not to sit at the first row in church?
6 Isn’t strange how we need to know about an event for church two to three weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events at the last minute?
7 Isn’t it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?
8 Isn’t it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say, but we question the words in the Bible?
9 Isn’t it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they don’t want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?
10 Isn’t it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away, but when we are going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with others?
It’s strange, isn’t?
