ABC TRANSPORT GOES THE DISTANCE: SUPPORTS TSUNAMI RELIEF
December 26th 2004 will ever remain one of the most tragic dates in human history. It was a day when Nature vented its fury on vulnerable mankind! Off the West Coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, an earthquake of a manitude of 9.0 started off a tsunami - a series of giant waves - that completely flooded coastal areas of Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and Malaysia, as well as Indian Ocean Islands and parts of East Africa, notably Somalia.

The carnage is of a scale that defies understanding, with over 160,000 deaths reported. ABC Transport received the news of the tragedy created by the Tsunami with a shock-stricken heart and watched helplessly the disastrous effects ravaged almost twelve countries spread over thousands of miles. Up to 1.5 million children were affected by this tragedy, according to UNICEF, with tens of thousands losing one or both parents and many more left homeless and hungry. This is very tragic, very unprecedented in the annals of humanity. No such single catastrophe has so affected a great multitude of people of diverse nationalities! Some bodies would never be recovered, and some persons never again seen.

In olden and contemporary times, no natural disaster has ever been recorded of this fearsome enormity, which devastated not less than ten nations, and consequently, mobilized the International community in a way that one has never seen before. Indeed, a great human tragedy. All over the world, governments, private sectors, and individuals have responded with massive support for the remaining survivors and casualties swept up in the tragedy of the earthquake and tsunami.

ABC Transport feels the pains of the victims and joins them in their crucial struggle to recover. With hearts of sympaty and love, we therefore offer helping hands to these survivors. So, in the wake of the recent disaster that shook and displaced tens of thousands of the Earth's population, and the Pacific, ABC Transport stood up to identify with Relief efforts directed towards salvaging the lives of the affected people around Asia. Thus, in order to save these lives, alleviate their suffering, and reduce the economic impact of the Indian Ocean disaster, the Company decided, in its own humble way, to support every humanitarian effort aimed at meeting these arduous tasks.

In living up to its expectations, ABC Transport has always readily supported humanitarian needs and goals. It has rendered immense assistance and sponsorship to a host of individuals and NGOs, without fear or favour. Further, the Company has installed needy boxes at almost all its Terminals in the North, West, and Eastern parts of Nigeria.

It is expected that our customers and passengers alike would also make whatever modest donation, no matter how little it might seem, they could afford, to realize this just cause. After all, little drops, they say, make an ocean. Any money dropped into the boxes will certainly go a long way in aiding ABC Transport to achieve its selfless drive towards ensuring the already destabilised people of these affected areas would, at least, be able to rebuild their lives out of this monumental destruction. We therefore appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to touch a life by supporting the Tsunami Relief, as they continue to GO ABC.
