STAFFF CHAT AND BIRTHDAY
ANELE Matthew (Mr.) joined the company in 1994 as Truck Driver. He is married. Mr. Anele said that since he joined the company he has been able to relate freely with people and his attitude has developed tremendously, due to training he has received from the company. He appreciates the effort of Management in employing well-educated manpower to man various departments in the company, which has amply impacted on the development of the company. He sees the company as being the best in the road transport system if Management continues its policy of employing educated people into the company. He recalled the incident of 1998, when he was able to monitor and track down bag/luggage snatchers in the terminal and said that this is his biggest contribution to the company, besides other contributions. He maintains a hardworking posture in the company and he loves it. Mr. Anele said that, if given a chance in the Management, he would ensure that staff are happy by paying them their entitlement when due. He emphasized that truck drivers, due to the nature of their jobs, amount paid to them will be reviewed to encourage them to work harder and better. In his view, he said that Management should look critically into the welfare of old drivers and truck drivers and give them special packages, instead of the Long Service Award. Maybe increase in remuneration and other pecuniary benefits. He stated that there are still some differences in the pay package of drivers, even at the same level. His advice to staff is that they should work in unity, eschew bitterness. On the Management part, Mr. Anele said that old trucks should be removed, as breakdown of trucks does not portray a good corporate image of the company.
ODOEMENA Clement (Mr.), aka Westerhof, joined the company on March 1, 1993. He is married with four kids. Mr. Odoemena is a Senior Driver. Since he joined the company, his experience has not been fairly good as certain expectations of his are yet to be met. He expresses dismay why he should be kept on standby, considering his years of service. Mr. Odoemena sees his job as very challenging and gives thank to God for not being a victim of any road accident. He has contributed positively to the growth of the company in terms of calmness and mild approach to customers where there is service failure. His careful driving has kept some customers attached to the company, especially when he plied the Coach West Africa route. He sees ABC Transport going to places that other transport firms will never reach. He has a strong feeling that the company will still be the best transport company in the next five years. If in Management, Mr Odoemena will introduce policies that will benefit staff such as car and housing loans so that they can work with relaxed minds. Hard work, dedication to duty and transparency are his criteria for promotion. He advises staff to be up and doing and learn to channel problems to the appropriate quarters, instead of grumbling in groups which will never yield any result. He urges staff to show respect to their superiors and take instructions from them. According to him, “Indiscipline affects growth of company”.
